Toto the Grasshopper in the Library of Solitude

In a corner of the Evergreen Garden, there was a "Library of Silence" that none of the other insects ever visited. In truth, it was nothing more than a shaded space beneath a large rock.

It served as the place for contemplation for Toto the grasshopper, and it was where the deepest solitude in the garden resided.

While others busied themselves searching for sweet nectar or singing to find a mate, Toto sat there alone, pondering the principles of the world.

"Why are we born, and why must we disappear?"

Whenever he sank into such deep contemplation, Toto would taste a profound solitude, as if he were detached from the rest of the world. At first, this solitude seemed to bring a sweet wisdom.

But as it lengthened, a massive mold of "loneliness" began to sprout within his heart.

"Everyone else is happy except for me; why am I so lonely?"

One day, Toto fell into a swamp of loneliness and sank into deep melancholy.

Even a single leaf before his eyes appeared gray. Just then, an old ant named Ding-dong, who had been sitting in the sun, stepped into the shade and spoke.

"Toto, solitude is like a sharp blade. If you wield it well, it polishes your mind and grants you wisdom, but if you merely hold it by the edge, it will cut your heart."

"Grandfather, I am so lonely. I feel like this solitude is going to swallow me whole."

Ding-dong laughed heartily and patted Toto on the shoulder.

"The only secret to overcoming solitude is 'patience.' When loneliness washes over you, don't run away or cry; just sit quietly beside that loneliness. That time will make you stronger."

From that day on, Toto began to endure his solitude.

Whenever loneliness pierced his heart, instead of clicking away at his electronic calculator, he closed his eyes and silently withstood the weight of it. One minute, ten minutes, an hour... as he wrestled with his loneliness, a mysterious change began to take place within him. The loneliness, which had surged like a giant wave, eventually receded like an ebbing tide, leaving behind a "solid inner self."

Toto realized that true wisdom comes not from fleeing solitude, but from enduring it with your whole being and walking forward silently. Even today, Toto is painting a picture of self-growth on the canvas of solitude, using the brush of patience.

A Final Word

"Solitude is a guest that always visits at the end of contemplation.

When that guest feels too cold and you want to run away, stay by its side for a while.

That time you spend enduring the loneliness is the golden hour when your inner self grows the most."
